The SMBJ16A is a surface mount TVS diode from Littelfuse designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient events. It features excellent clamping capability, low incremental surge resistance, and fast response time typically less than 1.0ps from 0V to breakdown voltage.
Electrical specifications include a peak pulse power dissipation of 600W (10/1000μs waveform), maximum clamping voltage of 26V at 23.1A peak pulse current, and unidirectional protection for single line applications. The device is characterized by low leakage current and is suitable for ESD protection per IEC 61000-4-2 and EFT protection per IEC 61000-4-4.
Thermally, the SMBJ16A operates over a junction temperature range of -65°C to 150°C and supports storage from -65°C to 175°C. Thermal resistance is 20°C/W junction-to-lead and 100°C/W junction-to-ambient typical. The device is packaged in a DO-214AA (SMB) surface mount package, rated MSL level 1, and complies with RoHS3 and halogen-free requirements.
Typical applications include I/O interface protection, VCC bus transient suppression, and general purpose transient voltage protection in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronics.
