The SMBJ15CA-E3/5B is a bidirectional Zener transient voltage suppressor from Vishay's SMBJ series. Designed for general-purpose circuit protection, it offers a peak pulse power dissipation of 600W (10/1000µs waveform) and a reverse standoff voltage of 15V. The device clamps transients at a maximum voltage of 24.4V while handling a peak pulse current of 24.6A.
This TVS diode is housed in a compact DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package with matte tin plated terminals, suitable for automated assembly. It operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C and features a glass passivated chip junction for reliability. The molding compound meets UL 94 V-0 flammability rating, and the E3 suffix indicates RoHS3 compliance with MSL level 1.
Typical applications include protecting sensitive electronics such as ICs, MOSFETs, and signal lines in consumer, computer, industrial, and telecommunication equipment from voltage transients caused by inductive load switching and lightning. Its bidirectional construction allows symmetrical protection without requiring orientation.
