The SMAJ8.5CA-TR from STMicroelectronics is a bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode designed for general-purpose overvoltage protection. With a reverse standoff voltage of 8.5 V and a minimum breakdown voltage of 9.44 V, it provides reliable clamping at 19.5 V. The device can handle peak pulse currents up to 124 A under an 8/20 µs waveform, with a peak pulse power rating of 400 W.
This TVS diode is not intended for power line protection; its application is general purpose circuit protection. The surface mount package is DO-214AC (SMA), with a supplier device package designation of SMA (DO-214AC). It operates over a temperature range of -55°C to 150°C, making it suitable for a wide variety of environments.
The SMAJ8.5CA-TR is RoHS3 compliant and has a moisture sensitivity level of 1 (unlimited). The device is suitable for automated assembly and is commonly used in applications requiring bidirectional overvoltage clamping.
