The SMAJ550-M3/5A is a surface-mount TRANSZORB transient voltage suppressor diode from Vishay General Semiconductor. It is a unidirectional Zener-type clamping device designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage transients induced by inductive load switching and lightning. The part features a reverse standoff voltage of 550 V, a minimum breakdown voltage of 530 V, and a maximum breakdown voltage of 550 V. It is rated for a peak pulse power of 300 W and a power dissipation of 2.5 W, with a peak forward surge current of 40 A.
This device employs a glass passivated chip junction for excellent clamping capability and very fast response time. It is available in the DO-214AC (SMA) case with matte tin plated leads and is designed for surface mount assembly. The operating junction temperature range spans -55°C to 150°C.
The SMAJ550-M3/5A is suitable for general purpose applications including consumer, computer, industrial, and telecommunication electronics. An automotive qualified version (with HM3 suffix) is also available per AEC-Q101. The base part number with -M3 suffix is halogen-free per the datasheet. Power line protection is not provided, so this device is intended for signal line protection applications.
