The SMAJ40CA-13 is a bidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode manufactured by Diodes Incorporated. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients by clamping overvoltage events. Key electrical characteristics include a reverse standoff voltage of 40 V, a minimum breakdown voltage of 44.4 V at 1 mA test current, and a maximum clamping voltage of 64.5 V at a peak pulse current of 6.2 A. The device can handle 400 W of peak pulse power dissipation (10/1000 μs waveform) and features a fast response time.
This TVS diode uses a glass passivated die construction and is available in a surface mount DO-214AC (SMA) package. It operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to +150°C and supports storage temperatures up to +175°C. The package material is molded plastic with UL 94V-0 flammability rating, and the termination finish is solderable per MIL-STD-202, Method 208. The device is intended for general purpose circuit protection applications where bidirectional clamping is required.
Designers should note that the part is bidirectional and does not have a polarity indicator. The MSL is Level 1 per J-STD-020C, providing unlimited floor life. Available in lead free finish (Matte Tin) and RoHS compliant version as per datasheet.
