The SMAJ170A-TR is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from STMicroelectronics designed for general purpose overvoltage protection. It features a reverse standoff voltage of 170V and a maximum clamping voltage of 353V. The device can handle peak pulse currents up to 6.5A (8/20µs) and is rated for 400W peak pulse power.
This TVS diode is housed in a surface mount DO-214AC (SMA) package, suitable for automated assembly. It operates over a temperature range of -55°C to 150°C. The component is not intended for power line protection and is best suited for low-power transient suppression in electronic circuits.
Typical applications include protection of sensitive semiconductor components from voltage transients in consumer, industrial, and communication equipment. The unidirectional polarity makes it ideal for DC line protection where only one polarity needs to be clamped.
