The Bourns SMAJ13A is a unidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode designed for general-purpose surge and ESD protection in compact electronic systems. It is part of the SMAJ series, offering a working peak reverse voltage of 13V and a maximum clamping voltage of 21.5V at the rated peak pulse current of 18.6A. The device delivers a minimum peak pulse power dissipation of 400W (TP=1ms) and features a fast response time of less than 1.0 picosecond from 0V to breakdown.
This TVS diode is housed in an industry-standard DO-214AC (SMA) surface mount package, suitable for automated pick-and-place assembly. It supports a wide operating junction temperature range of -55°C to +150°C and has a maximum steady state power dissipation of 1.0W (at TL=75°C). The device is also rated for a peak forward surge current of 40A (8.3ms) and offers a maximum forward voltage of 3.5V at 35A.
The SMAJ13A meets IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection at Level 4 minimum, and is compliant with IEC 61000-4-4 EFT and IEC 61000-4-5 surge standards. It holds UL recognition (File E153537) and is RoHS3 compliant, making it suitable for lead-free soldering processes. This component is ideal for protecting sensitive electronics from voltage transients in communications, computing, and industrial equipment.
The reverse standoff voltage (working peak reverse voltage) is 13V.
The maximum clamping voltage is 21.5V at the rated peak pulse current (IPP).
The minimum peak pulse power dissipation is 400W for a 1ms non-repetitive current pulse.
