The SMA6J70A-TR is a unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning, inductive load switching, and electrostatic discharge (ESD). The device features a reverse standoff voltage (VRWM) of 70V and a typical clamping voltage of 120V at peak pulse current. It can handle a peak pulse power of 600W (8/20µs waveform) and a peak pulse current of 27A, making it suitable for robust circuit protection in general purpose applications.
The TVS diode is housed in the standard DO-214AC (SMA) package, which is a surface mount package suitable for automated assembly. The operating junction temperature range spans from -55°C to 175°C, allowing reliable operation in harsh environments. The component is RoHS3 compliant and has a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 1, indicating it is not sensitive to moisture and has unlimited shelf life before soldering.
