The Vishay Dale SM5A27-E3/2D is a surface mount TVS diode from the PAR® Transient Voltage Suppressors series. It offers high temperature stability and reliability, suitable for automotive requirements with a Tj of 175°C. This uni-directional device provides protection against voltage transients, with a maximum working stand-off voltage of 22V and a clamping voltage of 40V.
Key electrical characteristics include a peak pulse power dissipation of 3600W (10/1000 μs waveform) and a power dissipation of 5W on an infinite heatsink. It has a non-repetitive peak reverse surge current of 70A and a peak forward surge current of 500A (8.3 ms single half sine-wave).
The SM5A27-E3/2D is housed in a DO-218AB package, designed for surface mounting. The molding compound meets UL 94 V-0 flammability rating. Terminals are matte tin plated and solderable per J-STD-002 and JESD 22-B102.
Typical applications include sensitive electronics protection against voltage transients induced by inductive load switching and lighting, especially for automotive load dump protection.
