The SiS 648 chipset, developed by Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), is designed for Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 and Celeron processors. It supports a front side bus speed of 400/533MHz and DDR SDRAM memory with a capacity of up to 3GB, supporting speeds of DDR200/266/333 MHz.
This chipset features an AGP interface compliant with AGP 2.0/3.0 standards, enabling support for external AGP graphics devices with data transfer rates of 2X, 4X, and 8X. The SiS 648 also includes the SiS963 Southbridge, which offers a range of integrated options. These include UDMA 33/66/100/133 IDE interface support, up to 6 USB 1.1/2.0 ports, an integrated LAN MAC, and a built-in 1394 controller.
Further integrated features include ACPI 1.0b compliant power management and a Real Time Clock (RTC). The expansion capabilities include one AGP slot and five PCI 2.2 compliant slots, each supporting 32-bit BUS Master with a maximum throughput of 133 Mbyte/sec. The chipset also incorporates 6-channel audio with an 18-bit ADC and DAC resolution, compliant with AC'97 2.2 specifications, and offers digital S/PDIF output.
