The Silicon Labs SI8752-KIT is an evaluation and demonstration board designed for their Si875x isolated FET driver family. This board enables developers to utilize custom, high-volume FETs as replacements for traditional electromechanical relays (EMRs) and optocoupler-based solid-state relays (SSRs).
The Si875x drivers feature a CMOS-based isolation technology that transfers power across an integrated isolation barrier, eliminating the need for separate secondary-side power supplies. This reduces system cost and complexity. The evaluation kit allows for testing of these drivers in applications such as motor and valve controllers, HVAC relays, battery monitoring, and automotive charging systems.
Key electrical characteristics include flexible input side voltages ranging from 2.25 V to 5.5 V, supporting seamless connection to low-power controllers. The device offers a nominal turn-on time of 1.1 ms with a 1 mA input current, which can be increased to an exceptionally fast 94 µs with a 10 mA input current. A unique power optimization option reduces static holding current after turn-on. The drivers also feature an optional Miller clamp capability to prevent unintended external FET turn-on.
This evaluation board is suitable for industrial and automotive applications where reliable and efficient relay replacement is required. It offers silent switching and superior stability over time and temperature compared to older technologies.
