The Si3228x Dual ProSLIC devices from Silicon Labs implement two complete foreign exchange station (FXS) telephony interfaces in a single package. Operating from a 3.3 V supply, these devices offer standard PCM/SPI or 3-wire ISI digital interfaces. They are designed for applications such as VoIP gateways, routers, xDSL IADs, and Analog Terminal Adapters (ATA).
Key features include wideband audio for enhanced voice quality, DTMF detection, and Smart Ringing, which reduces peak current for 2-channel ringing. The devices also support on-hook transmission, loop or ground start operation, and smooth polarity reversal. Programmable parameters allow for flexible configuration of ringing frequency, amplitude, cadence, and waveshape, as well as two-wire AC impedance and transhybrid balance.
The Si3228x devices are available in 7 x 7 mm or 8 x 8 mm QFN packages. They integrate built-in DC-DC converter controllers to automatically generate optimal battery voltage, improving efficiency and minimizing heat. Self-testing and metallic loop testing are facilitated by the built-in DSP, monitor ADC, and test load.
