The Si1153-AA00-GMR from Silicon Labs is an advanced ambient light sensor, proximity, and gesture detector featuring an I2C digital interface. This touchless sensor IC is designed for a wide range of applications, including wearables and handsets.
Key electrical characteristics include a supply voltage range of 1.62V to 3.6V and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The device offers excellent performance across a wide dynamic range and various light sources, including direct sunlight, and can operate under dark glass covers. It boasts industry-leading low power consumption, with an average current of 9 μA and a standby current below 500 nA.
The sensor supports proximity detection from under 1 cm up to 50 cm without additional lensing, and up to 200 cm with lensing. It includes up to three independent LED drivers with 30 current settings each, ranging from 5.6 mA to 360 mA. The Si1153 also functions as an ambient light sensor with a possible resolution of less than 100 mlx and a dynamic range of up to 128 klx.
Packaged in a 10-lead 2x2 mm DFN or a 10-lead 2.9x4.9 mm LGA module, the Si1153-AA00-GMR is designed for surface mount applications. Its integrated photodiodes and digital signal processor provide immunity to artificial light flicker and natural light flutter noise.
