The Si1151-AB09-GMR from Silicon Labs is an integrated ambient light sensor, proximity, and gesture detector featuring an I2C digital interface. This touchless sensor IC is designed for a wide range of applications including wearables and handsets. It includes dual 23-bit analog-to-digital converters, a high-sensitivity array of visible and infrared photodiodes, and up to three integrated LED drivers with programmable drive levels.
The device operates from a 1.62V to 3.6V supply voltage and offers excellent performance across various light sources, including direct sunlight. It can also function under dark glass covers. The photodiode response provides immunity to artificial light flicker and natural light flutter noise. The Si1151-AB09-GMR is capable of supporting multiple-axis proximity motion detection and is provided in a 10-lead 2x2 mm DFN package.
Key features include proximity detection from under 1 cm to 50 cm without additional lensing, and up to 200 cm with lensing. It supports up to three independent LED drivers with 30 current settings from 5.6 mA to 360 mA. The sensor offers an ambient light resolution of less than 100 mlx and a dynamic range of up to 128 klx. Power consumption is notably low, with an average current of 9 μA and standby current below 500 nA.
