The Littelfuse SA8.5CA is a 500W bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode from the SA series, designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient events. It offers a reverse standoff voltage of 8.5V and a maximum clamping voltage of 14.4V at a peak pulse current of 35.4A under a 10/1000µs waveform.
The device features a glass passivated chip junction in a DO-204AC (DO-15) axial leaded package with matte tin lead-free plated terminals. It is halogen free and RoHS compliant. Key thermal characteristics include a steady state power dissipation of 3.0W on infinite heat sink at TL=75°C, an operating temperature range of -55°C to 175°C, and a junction and storage temperature range of -65°C to 175°C. The TVS diode responds to transients in less than 1.0 picosecond from 0V to breakdown voltage minimum, making it suitable for high-speed protection of I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer applications.
