The Richtek RT9173BPS is a versatile linear regulator capable of sourcing or sinking up to 2A of current. It is designed to convert input voltage supplies ranging from 1.7V to 6V into a desired output voltage, adjustable via external voltage divider resistors. This regulator is particularly suited for active termination schemes in high-speed transmission lines, such as high-speed memory buses and distributed backplane designs, providing an excellent voltage source for DDR SDRAM termination.
Key features include current limiting and thermal shutdown for fault tolerance. The RT9173BPS supports both DDR I (1.25VTT) and DDR II (0.9VTT) requirements, generating termination voltages for SSTL-2. It offers high accuracy output voltage at full load and includes a shutdown mode for standby operations.
The RT9173BPS is available in popular surface mount packages: 5-lead TO-252 and fused SOP-8. Its design minimizes external components, making it suitable for applications like DDR memory termination supplies, active termination buses, desktop PCs, AGP graphics, set-top boxes, and IPCs.
