RT1715WSC Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The RICHTEK RT1715WSC is a programmable USB Type-C and Power Delivery (PD) controller designed for modern power management applications. It complies with the latest USB Type-C and PD standards, integrating a complete Type-C transceiver with Rp and Rd resistors for USB Type-C detection, including attach and orientation.

This controller integrates the physical layer of the USB BMC power delivery protocol, enabling power delivery up to 100W and supporting role swap functionality. The BMC PD block ensures full support for alternative interfaces defined in the Type-C specification. Key electrical specifications include an operating voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, an I2C interface for communication, and a Dual Role Power (DRP) capability. It also supports VCONN at 5V/200mA and features real-time VBUS monitoring and dead battery support.

The RT1715WSC is housed in a compact 9-WLCSP (1.38x1.34) package, making it suitable for space-constrained designs. Its features include dual-role PD compatibility, attach/detach detection as host, device, or DRP, and programmable overcurrent protection (OCP) for VCONN. The device is designed for applications such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops, providing robust USB Type-C and PD control.

This controller offers a simple I2C interface for easy integration with application processors (AP) or embedded controllers (EC). It also supports BIST mode and is designed for efficient operation with a typical quiescent current of 25μA.
