Equipped with Class D DSC, this radio ensures automatic transmission of distress calls on channel 70 when the distress button is activated. These calls include the ship's ID, position, time, and nature of distress. The RT-550 also supports traditional communication functions, enabling ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore calls.

 

Key features include a backlit keyboard and display, visual and audio alarms, ship identification during distress messaging, and an acknowledgement message system. It also functions as a DSC watch receptor and includes an MMSI directory. The output power can be selected between 1W and 25W directly from the handset.
