RFX8050

The Skyworks Solutions RFX8050 is a single-chip, single-die RF Front-End Integrated Circuit (RFeIC) that provides essential RF functionality for IEEE 802.11a/n/ac WLAN systems operating in the 4.9-5.85GHz range. This device integrates a high-efficiency, high-linearity power amplifier (PA), a low-noise amplifier (LNA) with bypass mode, and transmit/receive switch circuitry. It also includes a directional coupler-based power detector for accurate output power monitoring.

The RFX8050 is built on CMOS technology and features simple, low-voltage CMOS control logic, requiring minimal external components. It is assembled in an ultra-compact, low-profile 2.5x2.5x0.45 mm 16-lead QFN package with an exposed ground pad. This RFeIC is suitable for 5GHz WLAN implementations in smartphones, tablets, gaming devices, notebooks, and other mobile or consumer electronics platforms.

Key features include high transmit signal linearity meeting 802.11ac OFDM/MCS9 modulation standards, separate TX and RX transceiver ports, a low-pass harmonic filter for the PA, and ESD protection on all pins. The DC-decoupled RF ports and internal RF decoupling on bias pins contribute to signal integrity. The device supports direct battery operation and includes a low-current mode for TX to conserve battery power.
