The PCF85263A from NXP Semiconductors is a tiny CMOS Real-Time Clock (RTC) and calendar designed for low power consumption. It automatically switches to battery power during main power loss and can also function as a stop-watch for elapsed time counting.

Key features include year, month, day, weekday, hours, minutes, seconds, and 100th seconds based on a 32.768 kHz quartz crystal. It offers two independent alarms, a battery back-up circuit, and a watchdog timer. The device supports a stop-watch mode for counting elapsed time from 100th seconds up to 999,999 hours.

With an operating voltage range of 0.9 V to 5.5 V, the PCF85263A consumes a typical current of 0.28 µA at 3.0 V and 25 °C. It features a 400 kHz two-line I2C-bus interface and provides programmable clock output options, including 32.768 kHz down to 1 Hz. The oscillator circuit is configurable for various quartz crystals with load capacitances of 6 pF, 7 pF, and 12.5 pF.

This RTC is available in an 8-TSSOP package and is suitable for applications such as printers, copiers, electronic metering, digital cameras, white goods, data loggers, and mobile equipment. It is designed for surface mount installation.
