The P4SMA400CA is a bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode from Littelfuse Inc., designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning and other transient events. It offers a reverse standoff voltage of 342V, a breakdown voltage of 400V, and a clamping voltage of 548V. With a peak pulse power rating of 400W (10/1000µs waveform) and a peak pulse current of 0.73A, it provides robust transient suppression. The device features an extremely fast response time of less than 1ps from 0V to breakdown voltage and ESD protection up to 30kV air and 30kV contact per IEC 61000-4-2.
Operating over a junction temperature range of -65°C to 150°C, the P4SMA400CA can dissipate up to 3.3W with an infinite heat sink. Its thermal characteristics include a junction-to-lead thermal resistance of 30°C/W and junction-to-ambient resistance of 120°C/W. The surface mount package is DO-214AC (SMA) with matte tin lead finish, suitable for compact PCB layouts.
The device meets RoHS and halogen-free requirements, is Pb-free (E3), and has a flammability rating of UL 94 V-0. It is MSL level 1 per J-STD-020, making it reliable for automated assembly processes. Typical applications include protection of I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronics.
