The P4KE220CA is a bidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode from Littelfuse's P4KE series. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by lightning, EFT, and ESD. With a reverse standoff voltage of 185V and a minimum breakdown voltage of 209V, it provides clamping at 328V for a peak pulse current of 1.3A under a 10/1000µs waveform. The device can handle 400W peak pulse power and has a fast response time of less than 1.0ps.
For electrical characteristics, the P4KE220CA features a maximum peak forward surge current of 60A (8.3ms) and steady state power dissipation of 1.5W. It operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to 175°C. Typical thermal resistance from junction to lead is 60°C/W and to ambient is 100°C/W.
Packaged in a DO-204AL (DO-41) axial leaded through-hole package, it is suitable for general purpose applications including I/O interfaces, VCC bus, and other vulnerable circuits in telecom, computer, industrial, and consumer electronics. The device is RoHS3 compliant and halogen free per the datasheet.
Applications include protection against IEC 61000-4-2 ESD (30kV air/contact) and IEC 61000-4-4 EFT. The typical failure mode is short circuit, ensuring safe shutdown.
