The NCV33035DWR2G from On Semiconductor is a second-generation monolithic brushless DC motor controller designed for three or four-phase motor control systems. It integrates essential functions for open-loop control, including a rotor position decoder for commutation sequencing, a temperature-compensated reference, and a frequency-programmable sawtooth oscillator.

This controller features three open-collector top drivers and three high-current totem-pole bottom drivers, suitable for driving power MOSFETs. Protective features are built-in, such as undervoltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limiting with a selectable shutdown mode, and internal thermal shutdown. A unique fault output is also included for interfacing with microprocessor-controlled systems.

The NCV33035DWR2G supports electrical sensor phasings of 60°/300° or 120°/240° and can also efficiently control brush DC motors with an external MOSFET H-bridge. It operates within a voltage range of 10V to 30V and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C (TA). The device is supplied in a 24-SOIC surface-mount package.

Typical motor control functions include open-loop speed control, forward or reverse direction control, run enable, and dynamic braking. The device also includes a fully accessible error amplifier for closed-loop servo applications and a pinned-out current sense reference.
