The NCP1615C5DR2G from ON Semiconductor is a high voltage, high efficiency power factor correction (PFC) controller. It utilizes an innovative Current Controlled Frequency Foldback (CCFF) method, operating in critical conduction mode (CrM) when inductor current exceeds a programmable value. When current is below this level, the frequency decays linearly down to approximately 26 kHz at the sinusoidal zero-crossing, maximizing efficiency at both nominal and light loads.
This controller integrates a high voltage start-up circuit, eliminating the need for external components and consuming negligible power during normal operation. Key features include a wide VCC range of 9.5 V to 30 V, high drive capability of -500 mA/+800 mA, and power saving mode enabling less than 30 mW no-load power consumption. It is housed in a compact 16-SOIC package, suitable for robust PFC stages with minimal external components.
Typical applications include PC power supplies, off-line appliances requiring power factor correction, LED drivers, and flat TVs. The device incorporates safety features such as adjustable bulk undervoltage detection, soft overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, and internal thermal shutdown.
