NCP1207DR2

The ON Semiconductor NCP1207DR2 is a PWM current-mode controller that facilitates free-running quasi-resonant operation. It integrates a demagnetization detector for borderline/critical conduction mode and minimum drain voltage switching. The controller features inherent skip-cycle capability, entering burst mode at low power demand to prevent audible noise. An internal timer limits the free-run frequency to below 100 kHz, aiding in EMI compliance.

This device supports Dynamic Self-Supply (DSS), simplifying transformer design by eliminating the need for an auxiliary winding for VCC supply. It is suitable for applications with varying output voltages, such as battery chargers. The high-voltage technology allows direct connection to the high-voltage DC rail, making the short-circuit trip point independent of the VCC auxiliary level. The NCP1207DR2 includes auto-recovery overcurrent protection and latching overvoltage protection, with external latch triggering capability.

Packaged in an 8-SOIC, the NCP1207DR2 is designed for surface mounting. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C (TJ) and is suitable for isolated flyback topologies. The device offers fault protection including current limiting, overload, over temperature, and over voltage.

Typical applications include AC-DC adapters for notebooks, offline battery chargers, consumer electronics like DVD players and TVs, and auxiliary power supplies for USB and appliances.
