The NCN8024R is a single smart card interface IC from ON Semiconductor, specifically designed for 3.0V and 5.0V smart card reader/writer applications. It features a low-dropout, low-noise regulator for the card VCC supply.
This device is fully compliant with ISO 7816-3 and EMV standards, as well as other standards for conditional access in Set-Top-Boxes (STB) including NDS. It supports three bidirectional buffered I/O level shifters for card pins C4, C7, and C8.
The NCN8024R provides a regulated card power supply of 3.0V or 5.0V ± 5%, capable of supplying up to 70 mA. The controller interface has an independent power supply range from 2.7V to 5.5V. It handles both 5.0V (Class A) and 3.0V (Class B) smart cards.
Key features include thermal and short circuit protection on all card pins, support for clock frequencies up to 27 MHz with internal division ratios, and ESD protection up to 8 kV+ (Human Body Model).
