The NCN8024DTBR2G from ON Semiconductor is a single smart card interface IC specifically designed for 3.0V and 5.0V smart card reader and writer applications. It is fully compliant with ISO 7816-3 and EMV standards, making it suitable for secure identification and access control systems.

This device features three bidirectional buffered I/O level shifters for card pins C4, C7, and C8. It supports regulated card power supplies of 3.0V or 5.0V ±5%, capable of delivering up to 75 mA at 3.3V. The controller interface operates with an independent power supply range from 2.7V to 5.5V. The NCN8024DTBR2G handles both 3.0V and 5.0V smart cards and includes thermal and short circuit protection on all card pins.

Further enhancing its reliability, the IC supports clock frequencies up to 18 MHz with internal division ratios and provides ESD protection up to 8 kV (Human Body Model) on card pins. It incorporates fault protection mechanisms for automatic deactivation in cases of overload, overheating, card take-off, or power supply drop-out. An interrupt signal (INT) is available for card presence and fault detection. The device is available in a 28-TSSOP package, suitable for surface mounting.

Typical applications include Set-Top Boxes for conditional access, Conditional Access Modules (CAM), Point of Sale (POS) terminals, ATMs, and access control systems.
