The NCD83591MNTXG from On Semiconductor is an easy-to-use, multi-purpose 3-phase gate driver optimized for low Bill of Materials (BOM) cost. Its wide operating voltage range, from a minimum of 5 V up to a maximum of 60 V, makes it suitable for industrial and commercial applications. This device supports constant current drive for power FETs, configurable from 5 mA to 250 mA, with 16 settings available via input level to the VDRV pin.
Key features include internally generated gate drive supply voltages, tolerance to -12 V DC for high-side gate and source output pins, and gate sensing for cross-conduction protection and optimized dead time. It also incorporates an embedded high GBW general-purpose amplifier for current sensing and a charge pump function for DC static drive. The NCD83591MNTXG offers strong hold-off current to prevent self-turn-on and internal gate pull-down to GND during loss of VDD power. It includes under-voltage lockout on VM, VGL, and VGH-VM with optional trip levels and is compatible with 5 V/3.3 V logic inputs, plus an enable pin.
This gate driver is available in a 28-QFN (4x4) package and is designed for surface mounting. It provides 4 kV HBM and 1 kV CDM ESD protection. Applications include power tools, industrial actuators and cobots, automated guided robots, and light mobility devices such as e-bikes, e-scooters, and hoverboards.
