The MaxLinear MXL7704-AQB-T is a versatile five-output Universal Power Management IC (PMIC) optimized for powering low-power FPGAs, DSPs, and microprocessors from 5V inputs. It integrates four synchronous step-down buck regulators, capable of handling system power up to 1.5A and core power up to 4A. Additionally, a 100mA LDO provides a clean power output ranging from 1.5V to 3.6V for auxiliary devices.
This PMIC supports ±10% output margining on all outputs, with the two highest power outputs offering dynamic voltage control for power saving in compatible processors. Communication and control are managed through a 400kHz I2C interface, allowing monitoring of input voltage and PGOOD flags, as well as modification of power sequencing, PGOOD output assignment, output enabling, and switching frequency selection.
The device operates with an input voltage range of 4.0V to 5.5V. The buck regulators feature a switching frequency between 1MHz and 2.1MHz, with internal compensation for fast transient response and stability. Buck 1 provides 3.0V to 3.6V at 1.5A, and Buck 2 offers 1.3V to 1.92V at 1.5A. The high switching frequency and current-mode architecture minimize board space requirements.
