The MaxLinear MXL261-AF-T is a highly-integrated, monolithic RF frontend System-on-Chip (SoC) designed for DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS cable modem applications. This device targets designs requiring compact board layouts and reduced Bill of Materials (BOM) cost.
The MXL261-AF-T integrates essential components onto a single chip, including two 96MHz wideband tuners and four QAM demodulators. It also features a four-channel wideband IF output, a broadband input filter, a channel filter, Automatic Gain Control (AGC), LO generation, and a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). This integration enables simplified board designs and ultra-low power consumption, consuming less than 175mW per channel in full eight-channel mode.
The SoC receives RF signals across a frequency range of 44MHz to 1002MHz. The dual wideband tuners can be independently tuned to capture two 96MHz frequency bands anywhere within the cable spectrum. Control of all functions is managed through a convenient I2C interface. The IC operates with multiple supply voltages, including 3.3V, 1.8V, and 1.2V.
Packaged in a QFN48 (7x7mm) form factor, the MXL261-AF-T operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. Its design facilitates efficient and reliable performance in broadband communication systems.
