MXL1535ECWI

The MXL1535ECWI is an isolated RS-485/RS-422 full-duplex transceiver designed by Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated. It provides 2500VRMS of galvanic isolation between the RS-485/RS-422 side and the processor or control logic side. This isolation is achieved using integrated high-voltage capacitors, enabling fast 1000kbps communication across an isolation barrier even with large differences in common-mode voltages.

The transceiver supports a data rate of 1Mbps and features a 1/8 unit receiver load, allowing up to 256 devices on the same bus. It operates with a supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V. The device includes true fail-safe circuitry and its driver outputs and receiver inputs are protected from ±15kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) using the Human Body Model (HBM).

Key features include pin-selectable slew-rate limiting to minimize EMI, hot-swap capability, and isolation-barrier fault detection. The driver outputs are short-circuit and overvoltage protected, and the receiver inputs are open-line and shorted-line fail-safe. The MXL1535ECWI is available in a 28-SOIC package and is suitable for surface mounting.

Applications for this transceiver include isolated RS-485 systems, systems with large common-mode voltages, industrial-control local area networks, and telecommunications systems.
