The MPSA27 from ON Semiconductor is an NPN Darlington transistor designed for general-purpose amplification requiring extremely high current gain at collector currents up to 500mA. This device operates with a collector-emitter voltage (VCES) of up to 60V and can handle a continuous collector current (IC) of 800mA. It exhibits a high DC current gain (hFE) of 10000 at 100mA collector current and 5V VCE. The transistor has a maximum collector-emitter saturation voltage (VCE(sat)) of 1.5V at 100µA base current and 100mA collector current. Its operating and storage junction temperature range is -55°C to +150°C. The MPSA27 is supplied in a TO-92 package, suitable for through-hole mounting.
With a total device dissipation of 625mW, the MPSA27 is suitable for various amplification tasks. Its current gain bandwidth product (fT) is 125MHz at 10mA collector current and 5V VCE. The thermal resistance from junction to case is 83.3°C/W, and from junction to ambient is 200°C/W when mounted on a standard FR-4 PCB with adequate collector lead mounting pad.
