The MPL3115A2 from NXP Semiconductors is a compact, piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor featuring an I2C digital interface. It operates across a wide pressure range of 20 kPa to 110 kPa, suitable for measuring surface elevations on Earth. The sensor includes an on-chip temperature sensor for compensation, providing fully digitized outputs for pressure in Pascals and temperature in °C.
Key features include a calibrated temperature output range of -40°C to 85°C and a supply voltage range of 1.95 V to 3.6 V. The I2C interface supports up to 400 kHz. The sensor offers high precision with 0.1 meter of effective resolution and 20-bit pressure and altitude measurements.
Designed for applications requiring high-accuracy altimetry and barometry, the MPL3115A2 is suitable for smartphones, tablets, wearable devices, and GPS applications. Its internal processing simplifies system design by handling compensation and unit conversion. The device supports programmable interrupts and autonomous data acquisition modes, including an embedded 32-sample FIFO for data logging up to 12 days.
