The MP8756GD-Z is a high-frequency, synchronous, rectified, step-down, switch-mode converter from Monolithic Power Systems. It provides a compact solution capable of delivering 6A of continuous output current with excellent load and line regulation across a wide input supply range of 4.5V to 26V.
This converter operates with high efficiency due to MPS' proprietary switching loss reduction technique and internal low Rds(on) power MOSFETs. It features adaptive constant-on-time (COT) control mode for fast transient response and ease of loop stabilization, along with a DC auto-tune loop for good load and line regulation. Protection features include over-current limit, over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage protection (UVP), and thermal shutdown.
The MP8756GD-Z requires a minimum number of external components and is available in a QFN-12 (2mmx3mm) package. Its applications include laptop computers, tablet PCs, networking systems, personal video recorders, flat-panel televisions and monitors, and distributed power systems.
Key specifications include an adjustable output voltage starting from 0.6V, a low quiescent current of 117 µA, and a switching frequency of 700kHz. The device is stable with POSCAP and ceramic output capacitors and features internal soft-start and output discharge.
