The MMA8453QT from NXP Semiconductors is a smart, low-power, three-axis, capacitive, micromachined accelerometer with 10-bit resolution. It offers user-selectable full scales of ±2g, ±4g, and ±8g, with output data rates ranging from 1.56 Hz to 800 Hz. The device communicates via an I2C interface and operates within a supply voltage range of 1.95V to 3.6V.
This accelerometer is equipped with embedded functions for motion detection, including freefall, pulse, and jolt detection, as well as orientation detection for portrait and landscape modes. These features allow for power savings by relieving the host processor from continuous polling. The MMA8453QT is available in a compact 16-pin QFN package measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 1 mm and is designed for surface mounting.
Typical applications include e-compass, static and real-time orientation detection, notebook and laptop freefall detection, pedometer step counting, and motion detection for portable product power saving. Its robust feature set makes it suitable for a wide range of consumer and industrial applications requiring motion sensing capabilities.
