The MM74HC4040N from On Semiconductor is a high-speed binary ripple carry counter. It features a 12-stage design, incrementing on the falling edge of the input clock. The device operates across a wide voltage range of 2V to 6V and supports a count rate of up to 50 MHz.
This counter is implemented using advanced silicon-gate CMOS technology, offering speed performance similar to LS-TTL logic while retaining the low power consumption and high noise immunity characteristic of CMOS. All inputs are protected against static discharge damage.
The MM74HC4040N is supplied in a 16-lead PDIP package suitable for through-hole mounting. Its asynchronous reset input allows all outputs to be reset to a low level by applying a logical high signal.
Key electrical characteristics include a typical propagation delay of 16 ns, low input current of 1 µA maximum, and low quiescent current of 80 µA maximum. The output drive capability is rated at 10 LS-TTL loads.
