The MM74HC393N from Fairchild is a dual 4-bit ripple carry binary counter designed using advanced silicon-gate CMOS technology. This component contains two independent 4-bit ripple carry counters that can be cascaded to create a single divide-by-256 counter. Each counter increments on the HIGH-to-LOW transition of the clock input and features an independent clear input for count truncation and divide-by-N configurations.
Key electrical specifications include a wide operating supply voltage range of 2V to 6V, a typical operating frequency of 50 MHz, and a typical propagation delay of 13 ns (Ck to QA). It exhibits low input current (<1 µA) and low quiescent supply current (80 µA maximum). The outputs can drive 10 low power Schottky TTL equivalent loads.
This counter is functionally and pin-equivalent to the 74LS393. All inputs are protected from static discharge damage. The MM74HC393N is supplied in a 14-lead PDIP package. It is suitable for applications requiring digital counting and division functions where CMOS performance and low power consumption are desired.
