The MM74HC165N is a high-speed, 8-bit parallel-in/serial-out shift register manufactured by On Semiconductor. It utilizes advanced silicon-gate CMOS technology, offering low power consumption and high noise immunity, while being capable of driving 10 LS-TTL loads.
This shift register shifts data from QA to QH when clocked. Parallel inputs to each stage are enabled by a low level at the SHIFT/LOAD input. It features a gated CLOCK input and a complementary output from the eighth bit. Clocking is managed through a 2-input NOR gate, allowing one input to function as a CLOCK INHIBIT. Data transfer occurs on the positive-going edge of the clock. Parallel loading is inhibited when the SHIFT/LOAD input is HIGH and enabled when it is LOW, allowing direct loading of data at the parallel inputs.
The MM74HC165N operates within a wide supply voltage range of 2V to 6V and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. Its typical propagation delay from clock to Q is 20 ns. The device exhibits low input current (1 µA maximum) and low quiescent supply current (80 µA maximum).
Designed for through-hole mounting, the MM74HC165N comes in a 16-PDIP package. Its logic family is functionally and pin-out compatible with the standard 74LS logic family. All inputs are protected against static discharge damage by internal diode clamps to VCC and ground.
