ML2430

The FDK ML2430 is a lithium metal battery designed for industrial applications. From a transportation regulation perspective, all FDK lithium batteries are categorized as lithium metal batteries. These batteries and their shipping packages meet the requirements of subsection 38.3, Part III, UN Manual of Test and Criteria.

Lithium metal batteries are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods in the United Nations Recommendations, assigned UN numbers UN3090 and UN3091. Compliance with UN Recommendations, IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation (IATA-DGR), and International Maritime Dangerous Code (IMDG-Code) is required for transportation. Air transportation regulations for lithium batteries are subject to irregular amendments, and it is important to refer to the latest IATA-DGR (64th edition).

For air transport, lithium metal batteries packed by themselves (UN3090) are permitted by cargo aircraft only. Transport of batteries in accordance with Section IIA of Packing Instruction 968 of the IATA DGR is applicable for cells containing more than 1g of lithium or batteries (battery packs) containing more than 2g of lithium, permitting transport as Class 9 Dangerous Goods when requirements are met. For batteries packed with or contained in equipment (UN3091), if lithium content is no more than 1g per cell or 2g per battery pack, they may be transported as exempted Class 9 Dangerous Goods under Section IIIA. If lithium content exceeds these values, they fall under Section IIA and are permitted as Class 9 Dangerous Goods.

Maritime transportation follows the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG-Code). Batteries containing more than 1g of lithium per cell or 2g per battery pack are classified as Class 9 Dangerous Goods. Batteries with no more than 1g of lithium per cell or 2g per battery pack are applicable to exempted Class 9 Dangerous Goods.
