The MIC5841YV is an 8-bit serial-input latched driver IC manufactured by Microchip Technology, utilizing BiCMOS technology. It integrates an eight-bit CMOS shift register, control circuitry, eight CMOS data latches, and eight bipolar current-sink Darlington output drivers. These drivers are rated for 500mA and include integral transient-suppression diodes, making them suitable for driving inductive loads such as lamps, relays, and solenoids.
The device offers a minimum data-input rate of 3.3 MHz and is compatible with CMOS, PMOS, NMOS, and TTL logic levels. It supports single or split supply operation, with a negative supply down to -20V. The MIC5842 variant offers a higher output breakdown voltage rating of 80V (50V sustaining).
Packaged in a 20-pin PLCC (9x9) or 20-LCC (J-Lead) format, the MIC5841YV is designed for surface mounting. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. The serial data output allows for cascading drivers for applications requiring additional drive lines. Limitations on package power dissipation may require duty cycle reduction for simultaneous full-current operation of all drivers.
