The Micrel MIC5159 is a precision-voltage regulator controller designed for use with an external P-Channel MOSFET to form a two-chip low-dropout regulator. It supports a wide range of output currents and operates from an input voltage range of 1.65V to 5.5V, enabling the generation of lower voltages from higher power rails like 1.8V.
Key features include an enable input, programmable current limit, and fast transient response. The MIC5159 is µCap stable, meaning it is stable with ceramic output capacitors. It offers an initial output tolerance of ±1.0% and can handle currents up to 10A, with a typical output current of 100mA.
This regulator controller is available in fixed 1.8V or adjustable output voltages down to 1.25V. It provides excellent line and load regulation and features logic-controlled shutdown. The device is packaged in an IttyBitty® SOT-23-6 package.
Applications for the MIC5159 include ultra-high current, ultra-low dropout voltage regulation, high-efficiency linear power supplies, low-voltage distributed power systems, fixed telecom applications, multimedia and PC power supplies, battery chargers, and power supplies for low-voltage DSPs, microprocessors, and microcontrollers.
