The MIC3003GML from Microchip Technology is a sophisticated fiber optic module controller designed for hot-pluggable transceivers and microcontroller peripherals. It integrates non-datapath functions, including intelligent laser control and a calibrated Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface per SFF-8472, into a compact 24-MLF® package.
This device features a highly configurable automatic power control (APC) circuit for laser bias, with temperature compensation using dual DACs, an on-chip temperature sensor, and NVRAM look-up tables. It supports multiple laser types and bias circuit topologies, with controlled laser turn-on facilitating hot plugging. The operating voltage range is 3V to 3.6V, and it supports data rates up to 10Gbps.
The MIC3003GML includes an analog-to-digital converter for monitoring temperature, voltage, bias current, transmit power, and received power. It offers programmable warning and alarm thresholds, an interrupt output, and a power-on hour meter.
