The MIC2536-1YM from Microchip Technology is a cost-effective, dual-channel, high-side power switch designed for bus-powered Universal Serial Bus (USB) applications. Each channel can supply up to 150mA of continuous load current, meeting USB requirements for downstream devices.
Key features include fast-acting current limiting to typically 275mA, which minimizes voltage droop during fault conditions. It also incorporates thermal shutdown to prevent catastrophic failure and a soft-start circuit to eliminate momentary voltage droop on other ports during hot-plug events. The device includes individual open-drain fault flag pins with transient filters to indicate overcurrent or thermal shutdown conditions, while ignoring short signals from inrush current.
This power distribution switch operates over a 2.7V to 5.5V range and features 3V/5V-compatible enable inputs. It offers a typical on-resistance of 400mOhm and a low off-state supply current of less than 1µA. The MIC2536-1YM is supplied in an 8-lead SOIC package suitable for surface mounting.
