The MIC2287-15YML-TR from Microchip Technology is a 1.2MHz pulse width modulated (PWM) boost-switching regulator designed for constant-current white LED driver applications. It can drive a string of up to 8 white LEDs in series, ensuring uniform brightness and eliminating the need for multiple ballast resistors.
This device features an input voltage range of 2.5V to 10V and can achieve an output voltage of up to 34V with a switch current exceeding 500mA. The high-frequency PWM operation allows for smaller external components, saving board space. It also provides lower noise and input ripple compared to variable frequency topologies. The feedback voltage is set at 95mV to optimize efficiency by reducing power dissipation in the current set resistor.
The MIC2287-15YML-TR includes output overvoltage protection (OVP) with options for 15V, 24V, and 34V, allowing designers to select appropriate voltage ratings for external components. It also features over-temperature protection and undervoltage lockout (UVLO).
Available in an 8-lead 2mm x 2mm MLF™ package, this LED driver operates within a junction temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. It is suitable for applications such as backlighting for cell phones, PDAs, GPS systems, digital cameras, MP3 players, and IP phones, as well as photo flash LED drivers and LED flashlights.
