The Micrel MIC2285A is a high-efficiency 8MHz PWM synchronous buck (step-down) regulator designed for portable power applications. It features a LOWQ LDO standby mode that draws only 20µA of quiescent current, saving battery life without introducing spurious noise. In PWM mode, it operates at a constant 8MHz frequency and can supply up to 600mA output current. The device supports a maximum duty cycle of 100% for low-dropout conditions and has an adjustable output voltage option down to 1V.
This regulator operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage and includes fully integrated MOSFET switches. It is available in a compact 10-pin 2mm x 2mm Thin MLF® package, enabling sub-0.55mm profile solutions. The junction operating temperature range is from -40°C to +125°C. Protection features include thermal shutdown and current limit.
Applications for the MIC2285A include cellular phones, PDAs, and USB peripherals where an ultra-low noise, small size, and high efficiency solution is required.
