The MIC2198YML is a high-power, 500kHz synchronous buck DC-to-DC controller designed by Microchip Technology. Housed in a compact 4mm x 4mm 12-pin MLF™ package, this controller is suitable for point-of-load applications in 5V, 12V, and higher voltage systems.
It features a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 32V and can be programmed for output voltages as low as 0.8V up to 6V. The 500kHz switching frequency enables the use of smaller inductors and output capacitors, contributing to a smaller overall solution size. With an all N-Channel synchronous architecture and powerful output drivers, it offers up to 20A of output current capability.
The controller utilizes current mode PWM control for ease of stability compensation and fast transient response. Key features include logic-controlled micropower shutdown, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and adjustable undervoltage lockout. The operating junction temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C.
Applications include point-of-load DC-to-DC conversion in telecom equipment, wireless modems, servers, and base stations. The surface mountable 12-MLF™ package simplifies integration into various electronic designs.
