MIC2072-2PZQS Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MIC2072-2PZQS is a dual-channel USB power switch designed by Microchip Technology to support power distribution for USB Wakeup from the ACPI S3 state. It directly switches its two outputs between a 5V main supply and a 5V auxiliary supply, commonly found in ATX power supplies.

This controller adjusts its current-limit threshold based on the ACPI state. In the active S0 state, the current-limit is set at a minimum of 500mA per channel, satisfying USB continuous output current specifications. In the S3 state, the current-limit can be reduced to 100mA per channel to minimize auxiliary supply current and maintain voltage regulation during fault conditions.

The MIC2072-2PZQS provides make-before-break switching for glitch-free transitions between S3 and S0 states. Its thermally isolated channels ensure that a fault in one channel does not affect the other. Fault status outputs signal overcurrent and thermal shutdown conditions. The MIC2072 option latches the output off upon detecting an overcurrent condition for more than 5ms, acting as a circuit breaker.

This device is compliant with USB power distribution specifications and is UL Recognized. It features two independent switches, an integrated switching matrix for ACPI state transitions, and thermal shutdown protection. The package is a 16-QSOP.
