The MCP4921-E/P from Microchip Technology is a 12-bit, single-channel, buffered voltage output Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). It supports a selectable unity or 2x gain output and utilizes an external voltage reference. The device operates from a wide supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and is specified for an extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Featuring an SPI compatible serial peripheral interface with support for up to 20 MHz clock speeds, the MCP4921-E/P allows for fast data transfer. It includes double-buffered registers for synchronous updates of the DAC output using the LDAC pin. The DAC architecture is based on a resistive string, offering low Differential Non-Linearity (DNL) error and a fast settling time of 4.5 µs typical.
This DAC is suitable for applications requiring set point or offset trimming, precision selectable voltage references, motor control feedback loops, digitally-controlled multipliers/dividers, and calibration of optical communication devices. The device is available in an 8-pin PDIP package, suitable for through-hole mounting.
