MCP4461T-503E/ML Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The Microchip Technology MCP4461T-503E/ML is a quad digital potentiometer offering 7-bit or 8-bit resolution with 128 or 256 resistors, respectively. It supports potentiometer or rheostat configurations with available resistances of 5 kΩ, 10 kΩ, 50 kΩ, and 100 kΩ. This device features a low wiper resistance of 75 Ω typical and a low temperature coefficient.

Designed for flexibility, it includes nonvolatile memory with automatic recall of saved wiper settings and WiperLock™ technology. The I2C serial interface supports speeds up to 3.4 MHz, allowing high-speed read/write operations to the wiper and EEPROM. It also provides hardware and software write protection features and a reset input pin.

The MCP4461T-503E/ML operates over a wide voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V for device operation and 2.7V to 5.5V for specified characteristics. It has an extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The device is available in a 20-QFN (4x4) package and is suitable for surface mount applications.

Key electrical characteristics include a typical bandwidth of 2 MHz for the 5.0 kΩ device. It also offers high-voltage tolerant digital inputs up to 12.5V and internal weak pull-up resistors on digital inputs. Brown-out reset protection is provided at 1.5V typical, and the serial interface consumes a low inactive current of 2.5 µA typical.
