MCP3903-E/SS Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MCP3903-E/SS from Microchip Technology is a versatile 6-channel Analog Front End (AFE) integrated circuit. It incorporates six synchronous sampling, 16/24-bit resolution Delta-Sigma Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) with a proprietary multi-bit architecture. Each channel offers impressive performance metrics, including 91 dB SINAD, -100 dBc Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) up to the 35th harmonic, and 102 dB Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR).

This AFE supports programmable data rates up to 64 kSPS and features an ultra-low-power shutdown mode consuming less than 2 μA. It boasts excellent channel isolation with -115 dB crosstalk and includes a low-drift internal voltage reference with 5 ppm/°C drift. The device provides high-gain PGAs on each channel, reaching up to 32 V/V, and offers phase delay compensation between channel pairs with 1 μs time resolution.

Designed for applications such as energy metering, power measurement, portable instrumentation, and medical power monitoring, the MCP3903-E/SS interfaces with various voltage and current sensors. It operates with independent analog and digital power supplies, requiring 4.5V to 5.5V for AVDD and 2.7V to 3.6V for DVDD. Communication is handled via a high-speed, addressable 10 MHz SPI interface. The device is supplied in a compact 28-lead SSOP package and operates across an extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
